Organic farming, rooted in the Pajottenland.
At Bree-Eik we grow and raise organically, with attention to the soil, the seasons and the landscape around us. From vegetables and herbs to grains, hops and our own beef cattle: what grows and lives here forms the foundation of our farm.
Farming is the heart of Bree-Eik
Our fields and meadows lie in the rolling landscape of the Pajottenland. Here we grow vegetables, herbs, grains and hops, and keep our own beef cattle.
We deliberately choose organic farming. Not as a label in itself, but as a way of working that fits how we see our farm: with respect for the soil we grow on, the rhythm of the seasons and the surroundings our farming is part of.
What the land produces, we also want to bring as close to people as possible. Directly through our webshop and farm, and step by step also through our farm butchery and at the table at Bree-Eik.

Why we farm organically
At Bree-Eik we choose to grow our crops organically. Among other things, that means working without chemical-synthetic pesticides and artificial fertiliser.
But for us, organic farming goes further than what may or may not be used.
Farming starts with a living soil and requires time, attention and constantly responding to what the season brings. Not every year is the same. Not every crop grows at the same time. And not everything we grow is available all year round.
That natural variation is part of the way we want to farm.
What happens in the field determines what's available at the farm. Not the other way around.

In step with the seasons
Throughout the year, a great deal grows at Bree-Eik. Some crops are meant for direct sale, others find a new purpose further down the chain.

In a supermarket, we expect almost everything to always be available. In the field, it works differently.
Sowing, growing and harvesting follow their own rhythm. Temperature, rain, soil and season all help determine when a product is ready and how much is available.
That's why Bree-Eik's range also changes throughout the year. What can be harvested appears in our webshop. When a harvest runs out, it's sometimes a wait until the next season.

As short a distance as possible between field and plate
A key starting point for Bree-Eik is local production. What we grow and raise ourselves, we want to bring to people as directly as possible.
Today that happens through, among other things, sales at the farm and our webshop. Collaborations with local producers also fit within that story.
Bree-Eik was founded partly from the ambition to grow local and organic farm products for uses closely tied to the Pajottenland. For instance, Bree-Eik also grows ingredients for Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen.
Over time, we want to make that connection between land and plate even more tangible: through our farm butchery, the restaurant and other ways to experience Bree-Eik yourself.

Farming is part of a landscape
An organic farm is still a farming business. We work the land, mow meadows and harvest crops.
But our fields don't stand alone. Between and around the farmland lie hedges, tree lines, meadows, woods, ponds and streams. Together they form a habitat for plants, insects, birds and other animals.
That's why, at Bree-Eik, alongside organic farming, we also deliberately choose nature-inclusive farming. In some places nature gets more room and we adapt the way we work when that can make a meaningful difference. That can also mean that not every square metre of farmland produces at maximum.

What grows here finds its purpose here.
From fresh products in our webshop to ingredients that are processed further. And soon also in our farm butchery and at the table at Bree-Eik. This is how we try to make the distance between the land, the product and the people who enjoy it a little smaller again.
